Ruth Adams Halterman - 17 February 1922
Happy Birthday Grandma!
Ruth grew
up in Parowan, Utah, among many wonderful grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins,
and friends. Her family lived directly
behind the Halterman family. (Later, she
married their son, Jerry Halterman). She
attended school and helped her parents with house chores and on their farm. She loved getting together with family for
parties and reunions.
Ruth loved the 4th of July which usually included
new dresses. One year she was Miss Utah
in the parade. The night before the 4th,
Ruth and her cousins liked to sleep out on the lawn and tell scary ghost
stories. At dawn, the American Legion
would shoot off the cannon and wake the entire town followed by a parade,
program, picnic, and games in the town square.
In the evening there was a firework display for everyone and later
dancing for the grown‑ups. The residents of their town were very patriotic and
the fourth was as enjoyable as Christmas.
Ruth loved the Flag of The United States of America and what it meant to
live under its protection. Ruth loved
the stories told about how men and women protected it. (Compiled
